Fantastic Physique Photos - Tips For Taking Great Bodybuilding Pictures

Most aspirant or established bodybuilders take a lot of pictures of themselves during their quest for the perfect body. This is not a sure sign of narcissism though as these photos will be an excellent graphic record of progress during various stages of the process. It makes a lot of sense then to invest in the best photographic equipment one can afford at an early stage and also to spend a bit of time perfecting the techniques needed to take good solo bodybuilding pictures.

These points are often neglected, a fact amply demonstrated by the masses of really bad self taken bodybuilding pictures one sees. Bodybuilding is a sport that's success is judged visually, both on stage and in pictorial form. If, for example, the venue lighting is bad on the day of a contest, contestants are going to have a hard time getting the maximum visual impact across in their routines. They may be seen clearly, but if the lighting is too muted or harsh and not placed correctly, muscle definition may be far less apparent and poses not as effective.

The same principles apply to shooting your own bodybuilding pictures. You are going to be spending a huge amount of time, effort and money on your sport so it is senseless to neglect the photographic component of your equipment. Fortunately it's not necessary to spend thousands on a studio grade setup. Digital cameras are getting better and cheaper each year and it's possible to get an intermediate level digital with good optics and high megapixel sensor for a very reasonable price. The only other critical item in a basic photographic setup is a tripod. Again, really good examples can be had at prices that won't decimate your bank balance.

Let's start by looking at camera choices. This, being the core of your photographic equipment, should be the absolute best example you can afford. In today's environment it doesn't make much sense investing in a film camera (if you can still find one that is). Digitals simply offer so many advantages that they represent the only serious option when considering camera choices. Always try and stay with the big names as optic and component quality is usually better as is the after sales service. Brand names such as Nikon, Canon, Sony, Pentax, Olympus and Konica Minolta are always safe choices. Kodak, HP, Panasonic and FujiFilm also make decent cameras. One feature that would be a definite plus in a camera is a remote. This will allow for a lot of flexibility when shooting solo bodybuilding pictures.

 Photography is making magic with light. Lighting is possibly the most important factor in any photographic genre, and particularly so in taking bodybuilding pictures where muscle definition is so critical in creating visual impact. Again it's not necessary to break the bank. Any fairly intense, directable light source will get the job done. For best results try and get two separate light sources set up at approximately 45° to your pose position and situated behind the point were you are going to set up your camera. Try to avoid using flash unless you have a flash diffuser as flash tends to wash out too much subtle detail. Remember that a high light position will emphasise shadow at the bottom of the muscle structure while a lower position will do the same for the lower abs but also possible detract from your chest.

Your camera should always be placed on a tripod to avoid any blurring that will play havoc with definition in your shots. If you have a portable, full length mirror it helps to place it almost directly behind the camera so that you adjust you poses for maximum effect. Just remember to look directly at the camera again before taking the shot. Keep unnecessary clutter out of the background that can detract from you as the focal point. This is especially true of items that could possibly cause a bout of blushing at a later stage!

Personal preparation for taking bodybuilding pictures should include the following points:

Body hair should be removed as it detracts from muscle definition in bodybuilding pictures. Try to avoid eating for approximately an hour before you take the pictures. A recent meal will distend your stomach and ruin your profile. Pump before you shoot, and no, that's not XXX grade movie advice either. A short workout prior to taking the pictures will increase blood flow and muscle volume. Skin tone and highlights are essential in showcasing muscle development in bodybuilding pictures. Concentrate on maintaining a good tan and oil up to increase highlights. This will really define your muscle mass. Practice good pose. Suck in that gut and keep you back straight or slightly arched back. When applying tension try to make it look effortless and smile! No war faces here. Once the pictures are taken you can use software to edit the results if you can and are so inclined. Skin blemishes can miraculously disappear and lighting and exposure adjusted to maximise the effect. Superimposing Mel Gibson's face is not on though!

It is impossible to briefly cover all the different techniques and settings that can be applied to get great results in bodybuilding pictures. Experience will quickly teach you how to maximise the results though and if you use the preceding tips you'll soon be able to build a flattering portfolio.

Camera lenses vary a great deal and so do the various types of photographic subject you could be engaging with and the a plethora of types of camera and lens mount.

Canon Rebel XS

The Canon Rebel XS is probably the most common entry level DSLR camera simply because it's a good little camera that's user friendly and it's also affordable. I personally love this camera and owned one when I was learning about photography.

The Rebel XS has some great features and produces excellent quality images, the only bad point that I would say about the Rebel XS is that the ISO range sometimes left me wanting and needing more, however this was only a small problem and for every day shooting this isn't a problem.

Canon Rebel T1i

This is the bigger sister to the Rebel XS and generally it costs around 0 more. However for that extra 0 you get a better camera in many departments.

Image quality is still excellent as you would expect from a well known camera manufacturer such as canon.

The Rebel T1i has a higher ISO range 100-3200 and can also record in high definition video which is a nice feature if you're interested in recording home movies without the need for an extra video camera.

Other Cameras

There are other cameras from other manufacturers suitable for beginner photographers, however I have used and tested the above cameras when I was beginning in photography and they helped me progress as a photographer greatly therefore I highly recommend them to you.

Cameras With Defective CCD's Can Be Fixed For Free!

If you are like one of an estimated 75 million owners of a digital camera, at some point in time, your camera will more than likely develop one or more problems and would be in need of digital camera repair. Common problems include cracked LCDs, broken battery doors, jammed lenses or board level problems.

There are a set of digital camera models however, that develop their own unique problems, all stemming back to a batch of defective CCDs that Sony produced and used in these camera models.

To start with, what is a CCD? A CCD is a Charged-Coupled Device, that "enables the transportation of analog signals through successive stages and are used as a form of memory or delaying samples of analog signals".

Now for that in English: In the digital camera world, CCDs are used by the camera to capture the image that is shown by the lens, translate it into a digital signal and send it along to the image processor to be converted and saved to the memory card.

What's the big deal with the faulty CCD? Well Sony produced a series of CCDs for various digital cameras between the years of 2003 and 2005, for at least 20 different models. And in higher heat and humidity conditions, the CCDs would begin to fail, producing some crazy looking images or causing a black screen to show on your camera (Before you starting thinking your camera has a bad CCD, PLEASE check and make sure your "display" button is not pressed and just shutting the LCD off).

So what does this mean for the consumer? Simple: If you own a camera that is covered under the Sony CCD recall, and your camera develops a problem as described above, you can generally send your camera to the manufacturer and get the CCD repaired for free. The largest affected manufacturers are Canon, Konica Minolta(now part of Sony) and Sony, but luckily for consumers, these manufacturers are standing behind their products and fixing their faulty CCDs. At one time the manufacturers were just replacing the cameras with new models, but lately it seems, they have gotten the CCDs fixed and are replacing them for you. Same camera, but you get a new, updated CCD and many more years of memories!

As Sony is the original sensor manufacturer for all of the other manufacturers' products listed (and given the vast array of products that they manufacture themselves) it should come as no great surprise that Sony has by far, the greatest number of affected products. This should not be taken as indicating any inherent deficiency in Sony products beyond the now discontinued sensors.

Don't throw your digital camera away if it has a bad CCD and it is covered under this recall, get it repaired for free! The best part about having the manufacturer repair your camera under this recall is that they will inspect, test, calibrate and update the camera as well as replacing the CCD with an updated version that will not fail as the first one did!

If your camera takes only solid black photos, or blurry pink/purple photos, call your manufacturer and ask them if the camera is on the CCD recall list today! If your camera is on the CCD recall list and you do not have this problem, YOU WILL in the future, so get it repaired now before the recall ends!

There are alternatives, there are ALWAYS alternatives to every problem. Honest! Yes, it may cost 0 to fix your camera, and yes you can buy that camera in the bubble pack on the shelf at W**l M**t (they don't pay my bills... I don't advertise their name, sorry) for less than 0, but what kind of quality do you honestly expect from a 0 camera? Not very good quality I hope, because you're not going to get it.

#1 - Broken/cracked LCD screen.

It was hard for me to choose between a jammed lens and a broken LCD screen but I stuck with LCD for #1 because it's so easy to break your LCD that you don't even have to touch the camera to do it!

The LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) is the view screen on the back of the camera that lets you see menus, playback pictures etc. The LCD is very thin, very fragile, and on many many cameras completely UNPROTECTED! Look at the back of your camera, is the screen recessed slightly or is the back of the camera flat and smooth? If it's flat you have a protective 'window' or 'glass' over the LCD to help prevent damage and breakage. If it's not flat, you have nothing protecting your LCD and should put a good quality LCD screen protector on the camera and NOT those thin, flimsy 'saran wrap' plastic film screen protectors, they are worthless.

- Don't leave your camera in your car in summer or winter. Extreme heat can cause expansion of the liquid in the LCD and cause it to 'crack', and on the other side of things extreme cold can cause it to freeze!

- Don't put anything up against the LCD in your camera bag, it will bang against the LCD and crack it (yes, even if it has a window over it, it will break!)

- Don't put your camera in your back pocket and then sit down!

- Don't put your camera in your front pocket and then roll over on it.

-... Just don't put your camera in your pants pocket please. =)

Ok, so it's broken, what do you do now?

- The manufacturer will just site impact damage and will refuse the repair even if the camera wasn't dropped etc. You can try, and I wish you luck, but they probably won't fix it.

- Look for a defective camera on e**y (hey they don't pay me to advertise for them...) and make one good camera from the two if you are handy.

- Look for an actual camera repair business and not somebody that will send it to the manufacturer and tell you it's 0 and 4-6 weeks to repair. (IF they tell you this, they are NOT repairing your camera for you, they are sending it to the manufacturer, guaranteed)

Many LCD screens are very easy to install and you can do it yourself and all you need is a small screwdriver. Other LCD's are very difficult to install, and even professionals don't like to do them! I can't tell you Brand.... is the best and Brand... is the worst, it's really not like that. Certain SERIES of cameras have 1 or 2 models that are difficult to work on, yet the rest of them are fairly straight forward. You need to decide for yourself if you want to open your camera and try the repair yourself or not.

How is an LCD replaced?

With most Canon digital camera LCD screens for example (using them as the example because they have the largest market share) all you do is disconnect the ribbon cable for the LCD and the backlight (the light that shines through the LCD and allows you to see what is on the screen) and then install the new LCD. Some come with the backlight attached, some do not. Some backlights need to be soldered to the mainboard of the camera, some do not.

- Be careful to not touch the flash capacitor contacts! You WILL zap yourself if you do, and it will HURT a bit. You will probably throw your camera across the room when it happens. (Yeah, I've done it, I've been repairing cameras for 5 years now so....) We have 'flash capacitor dischargers' and use them every time we open a camera.

I hope this sheds some light on the subject. You do not have to throw your camera away because the LCD is broken, and you can even fix it yourself!

So, what exactly does an endoscopy technician do? For starters, you have to keep in mind that you're working as an assistant to doctors and nurses during endoscopy procedures; so you're under their direct supervision. There are different routes in which endoscopes can be introduced into our body. Healthcare professionals can insert them through the throat, urethra, and anus. Although the procedure's generally safe, adverse effects could still be expected. These could include cuts on the internal organ, inflammation, infection, allergy attacks (due to the anesthesia), and bleeding.

There are several types of endoscopes on the market today. They are usually categorized and named according to the organ that they visualize (e.g. colonoscopes are for the colon). Some even come in the form of a pill that is swallowed to allow complete examination of the digestive tract. Olympus and Pentax are just some of the manufacturers of these instruments.

As endoscopy technicians, you can expect to work in clinics, in-patient or ambulatory endoscopy facilities, and hospitals. And since people are increasingly health conscious, especially when it comes to cancer, work opportunities for this medical position show no signs of dwindling down. The Best Canon Digital SLR Camera

Whatever you do, don't ask a Nikon / Sony / Pentax SLR owner, "Whats the best Canon Digital SLR camera I should buy?". Camera enthusiasts tend to be incredibly brand loyal, and will argue endlessly over why their particular brand is the best of all time . . . and will always be . . . forever and forever amen! Someone who owns several brand name cameras, and therefore owes his / her allegiance to no one brand would probably be a better person to ask. Well . . . since you did ask, let's have a look shall we.

For first time SLR owners, Canon makes one of the best selling and most critically reviewed entry level SLR cameras ever. I would of course be referring to the Canon Digital Rebel XTi digital SLR camera (~0). Its predecessor being the Canon Digital Rebel XT (still available ~0), and it's successor (recently announced but not yet available), the Canon Digital Rebel XSi (~0?). If you've never owned a SLR camera before, and are a little nervous about taking the plunge, you really can't go wrong with any model from the Canon Rebel lineup. Your final choice of these three cameras will really come down to a compromise between price and newer technology. They're all capable of taking great pictures, and every experienced photographer will tell you, the most important feature in any camera, is the ability of the person with his finger on the shutter button.

For anyone with a somewhat larger budget, the Canon EOS 30D, or the Canon EOS 40D both make excellent choices. Better kit lenses, less image noise, and a nicer LCD are just of the few features you'll find. There are more manual controls to tweak, so a steeper learning curve is to be expected. More controls are nice however, as the potential for artistic expression is greatly increased. The 30D and the 40D are both around the 00 to 00 dollar mark, so due diligence is a prime consideration in your shopping process here. In other words make sure you know the differences.

If the phrase full frame technology means anything to you, your probably already salivating over the Canon EOS 5D for about 00 (without the lens kit). Full frame, means that you have an image sensor (CCD), that corresponds with the old 35mm film SLR cameras. To some, full frame is the holy grail of digital photography. Initially this technology was only available for 2 or 3 times the 00 current price of the 5D.

Waterproof Digital Cameras - Can You Really Take Pictures Underwater?

Waterproof digital cameras are increasingly becoming popular. Those people that like to travel a lot will find that these cameras are certainly useful. In addition, a waterproof camera will allow you to take a few snapshots underwater if you plan on diving or snorkeling. Then again, you may not need to purchase a water resistant camera at all.

Do you need to have this type of camera? Well, that all depends upon the kind of photographer that you are. If you are the kind of photographer that never uses a camera outside during a rainstorm, then you might not need this waterproofing addition.

Then again, you never know when you'll be caught in a rainstorm, do you? People that should always have waterproof digital cameras include divers, snorkelers, travelers, and children. If you want a camera that can take photos under water, then look for a waterproof one. If you want t camera that will work during the occasional snowstorm, then look for a water resistant one. You'll be happy to note that both kinds of cameras exist.

Now that you know a bit about waterproof digital cameras, you can decide if you want one. Some people actually purchase regular digital cameras and waterproof digitals in order to cover both bases. Ultimately, this is your decision to make. As with any other camera, make sure to look for pixel quality and image quality above all else.

Also, you should know that you'll pay a lot more for a top waterproof digital than you will for a cheaper one, so get ready to spend some cash if you want to take professional grade underwater photos. There's nothing quite like photographing anything you want to, no matter what the elements might be like...

Progression of Digital Camera Technology

Digital cameras are devices that record images digitally on a light sensitive sensor. They can be used to take still photographs or videos. Highly versatile, they can take thousands of images on a single memory device, can record video with sound, edit these images and delete them allowing re-use of space. Digital cameras have been incorporated into many other devices like PDA'S mobile phones and vehicles. The Hubble Space Telescope is a digital camera.

Initially, the idea of digitizing images on scanners was used by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory to provide astronauts with navigational information. A mosaic photo sensor would record locations of planets and stars. This would help astronauts to orbit and land. The FUJI-DS-ISP 1986 was the first true digital device that recorded images in a computerized file. The first digital camera with LCD was the Casio QV-10 in 1995.The image resolution is achieved by the camera sensor that turns light into discrete signals. Millions of "buckets that make up the sensor, count the number of photons that strike it. The brightness of the image is dependant on the number of pixels (the smallest unit of information for an image).

The rapid technological improvements have dramatically reduced costs. "Pixels per dollar" has become the measurement of value of a digital camera. The camera either uses the single shot or the multi-shot method of capturing an image. This refers to the number of times the sensor is exposed to the light passing through the lens. Scanning is another method wherein the sensor moves like a desk-top scanner. In some cases, scanning is achieved by rotating the whole camera, enabling one to get images of a very high resolution. In recent years, technical improvements have made single shot and LCD based cameras very popular in commercial and digital photography.

Let us dwell on the connectivity of these new model digital cameras. Early computers used the Serial port to transfer data. There are cameras that use wireless connections via Bluetooth or IEEE 802.11 Wi-Fi.Modern cameras come equipped with Pict Bridge Standard which allows for the automatic transfer of data to a Pict Bridge capable computer printer, thereby circumventing the need for a computer.

I will admit that the kit lenses have been upgraded in the past year. They now include better optics and image stabilization. But the focal range is still only 18-55mm in most cases. Having the range of 250mm is a huge advantage. The optics throughout the entire range are strong. So you could have just one lens instead of two or three.

My personal findings are these:
When compared to my all purpose walk around lens, the Sigma 28-75 (which has served me very well over the last 4 years), the image quality was equal or better in every shot. Plus the optical stabilization made it possible to take sharp low light shots without the use of a tripod. Compared to my Canon 70-200mm f4 lens, I was totally surprised that the Sigma 18-250 matched the image quality in every case. And, again, the optical stabilization made it possible to take hand held images that were not possible with my Canon lens (Canon makes a 70-200 f4 IS, but I don't own that one). The biggest surprise was when I matched my new Sigma lens up with my dedicated macro lens, the Sigma 105mm macro. The Sigma 18-250 was the hands-down winner in image quality. I could focus on a bee gathering pollen at less that 2 feet away using the 250mm focal length, and the sharpness was better than the dedicated macro lens.

Pentax Lightseeker 30 Scope Review

The Pentax Corporation is a Japan based company that was established in the early 20th century. It is one of the leading manufacturers of optics and many other gadgets. It became world-renowned through its high-quality products such as cameras, interchangeable lenses, telescopes, lens covers and other accessories. My admiration for Pentax started when I purchased a Pentax Pioneer. With its 4-14 power adjustment and notably clear quality optics, I couldn't ask for more. Then I got introduced to an exceptional rifle scope, the Lightseeker 30. I was completely awed by its performance. To be able to sight in at 220 yards, my rifle just needed to fire 9 times. During my experience with this scope, I was able to see clearly even though the moon was not in sight that night. This scope makes night hunting a piece of cake.

The Lightseeker 30 is Pentax's most widely accepted rifle scope. This type of scope includes an innovation of Pentax, the famous Lightseeker optics. Instead of the standard 1" tube, they enclosed in a larger 30mm tube. This scope is certified more durable than the rest of their models as well.
